Our Vision and Aims

Vision

It is our curriculum intent to foster a life-long love of learning and to spark a never-ending fire in the minds of our children to find out more, always. We want our children to learn facts, skills and knowledge that will empower them for their whole lives, to believe that they have the inner strength to do anything they set their hearts on and to equip them with the skills and mind-set to achieve great things. We have developed a curriculum that is driven by rich texts, aspirational figures, real-world experiences and cultural engagement because we believe that these are the things that inspire our children to be excellent learners and successful, contributing members of the community.

Rich Texts: Nurturing a love for books and reading lies at the very heart of our learning ethos. We believe that exploring the curriculum through quality children’s literature is the best way to ignite a lasting passion for learning. Books and stories are magic carpets that transport our children to anywhere and everywhere – the possibilities are limitless. We aim to bring every corner of the curriculum to life through daily immersion in rich literature.

Aspirational Figures: We believe that learning about aspirational people who have accomplished incredible things is exceptionally motivating for our children. Our curriculum places great emphasis on teaching our children about people past and present who have shaped the world we live in.

Real-World Experiences: We believe that learning should feel real, meaningful and relevant. Our curriculum is designed as a series of projects that give our pupils a genuine sense of purpose and enthuses them about working towards an end goal that has a place in the

real world. We believe that when children are immersed in a meaningful project that they are more engaged, active and inspired.

Cultural Engagement: Culture is a big word that encompasses so much! As a school, we strive to explore definitions of culture and help our children understand how art and culture shape the world we live in and the community we are part of. We want our children to delve deeply into the links between culture, heritage and freedom of expression and feel empowered and inspired to express themselves.

The aims of the curriculum are to:

  • promote high standards in reading, writing and mathematics
  • allow children to develop a knowledge of themselves in time and space
  • enable children to acquire knowledge and skills in science
  • enable children to be confident in the use of ICT
  • promote spiritual development
  • promote physical and mental development and an awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle
  • enable children to be aware of the importance of and participate in the arts and related cultural themes
  • enable pupils to develop moral sensibility through carefully taught values
  • develop the personal and social skills of each child
  • provide equality of access and the opportunity for all pupils to make progress
  • prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experience of adult life and what it means to be a British citizen

The curriculum is planned effectively, providing progression, fluency, depth and mastery of key skills across all subjects. It promotes an enjoyment of learning and a commitment to learning and achieving.

Through the provision of rich and varied activities, we will:
