< Back to class list

Your teacher is Miss Parker.

Your teaching assistants are Miss Brewster, Mrs Mace and Mrs Clark.

The children have created our Class Charter for Squirrel Class this year. They decided we should include:

  • share toys
  • listen
  • try out best
  • kind hands, kind words, kind hearts
  • have friends, have fun

Here are some pictures of our learning environment. We base our role play and small world areas on the children’s interests and our curriculum for the term.

We have learnt about the festival of Diwali and created our own diva lamps. we enjoyed mixing salt dough, moulding them with our hands and adding paint and decorations. Happy Diwali to all our families celebrating!

Thank you so much for your kind donations to out Harvest Festival on Friday 8th October. In class we have been learning about why the Harvest Festival is celebrated and exploring fruits and vegetables that are harvested.

Curriculum:

In Reception, we aim to promote ‘The Characteristics of Effective Learning’ through skills that develop;

  • Engagement
  • Motivation
  • Thinking
  • Independence

to create enthusiastic, resilient and life-long learners.

The curriculum is split into 7 areas; 3 Prime areas and 4 Specific areas:

  • Prime Areas: Personal, social & emotional development (PSED), communication and language (CL) and physical development (PD)
  • Specific Areas: Literacy (L), Maths (M), Understanding the world (UW) and Expressive Arts (EAD)

Children learn through a mix of adult led and child initiated learning. The Foundation Stage Curriculum is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning.

Here are our curriculum map of skills for this academic year.

Autumn 1:

Autumn 2:

Out first topic is My World.

We have begun the year looking at the book The Colour Monster to help us explore our feelings.

We are learning about similarities and differences and are finding out all about the children’s lives and interests. Please do let us know about any of your child’s interests and achievements so that we can include these.

In Maths we are learning all about the value of 5 and recognising it in different representations.

At Peartree Spring we use the Monster Phonics Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme. The children have been learning their first sounds brilliantly!

We have PE lessons on a Thursday afternoon. We ask that PE kit is in school all week in case we have to switch days or have extra sessions. We are focusing on gross motor skills using different parts of the body, including balance and control.

These are some songs we love to sing in our Calendar session that you might like to enjoy at home.
