Curriculum Map

Here is our curriculum map for this Spring 1 Term that has an overview of what we will be covering in each area. We will also be sending this out via Marvellous Me so you can talk to your child about their learning.

Our Environment

Here are some pictures of our lovely environment here at Peartree Spring!

Our Work

Remember to take a look at some of the brilliant work that the children create on here and online using learning books. Learning books is an online platform that documents every child’s individual learning journey. Pictures, videos and observations are uploaded weekly by the class teacher for parents to access so you can see what they have been up to. Every child also has a ‘My Special Work Book’ where physical copies of fantastic work will be collected and collaged for you to keep.

EYFS_framework_-_March_2021

The EYFS curriculum is split into 7 areas; 3 Prime areas and 4 Specific areas:

  • Prime Areas: Personal, social & emotional development (PSED), communication and language (CL) and physical development (PD)
  • Specific Areas: Literacy (L), Maths (M), Understanding the world (UW) and Expressive Arts (EAD)

In Reception, we aim to promote ‘The Characteristics of Effective Learning’ through skills that develop;

  • Engagement
  • Motivation
  • Thinking
  • Independence

to create enthusiastic, resilient and life-long learners. The children will develop these skills through adult led sessions as well as in play and learn. Our curriculum is built around the children’s interests, so do let us know if there is anything in particular that your child enjoys!

Phonics & Literacy

At Peartree Spring we use the Monster Phonics programme, it is a multi-sensory approach that really supports children with learning their initial sounds. We will be learning a couple of phase 2 or 3 sounds each week as well as introducing the different characters. Initially the children will receive books with very few or no words in. This is to get them used to holding a book and orally retelling stories. It is important to read with your child every night as it builds up fluency and can be recorded in their monkey books.

In literacy we will be exploring a range of different texts, looking at the key features and sequencing stories. We follow Penpals handwriting and will be developing fine motor skills in a variety of ways. We will be practising mark making and giving meaning to these marks.

Mathematics

In maths we will initially be focusing on the importance of number as a whole. We will be looking at numbers 0-10. The children have access to lots of physical resources and we be able to match quantities, compare amounts and sort groups of objects.

PE kits

We ask that your child has their PE kit in school each day of the week as our timetable is subject to change due to the weather and the availability of space. Please ensure all of their kit is named.

Trainers get used on a daily basis when the children use the outside area, for lunch and break. This term we will be focusing on the movement checklist, developing gross motor skills using different parts of the body, including balance and control.

Water bottles

We ask that your child brings a named water bottle to school each day. These are kept by our sink so that your child has free access to them throughout the day.

Homework

In line with the rest of the school, we encourage your child to spend time reading at home each evening and this can be recorded in their Reading Record Book.

Any additional work or activities that your child completes can be uploaded onto learning books for teachers to see. This may be from learning how to ride a bike or starting a new extra-curricular club such as swimming. We love sharing all of your children’s successes and they enjoy sharing their news with their peers.

Contacting your class teacher

You will always have the opportunity at the beginning and the end of the day to see your child’s class teacher and discuss with them anything that you need to. Every class also has an email address where you can contact your class teacher directly.

Every Friday we attend a celebration assembly, where we recognise the achievements of that week across the whole school. In EYFS and KS1 there is a Star of the Week and a Monster Phonics Star!
