Science

In Science, we will be learning how plants reproduce. We will be exploring the life cycles of different mammals, amphibians, insects and birds.

PSHCE

Our topic in PSHCE this half term is Relationships. We will look at how to make friends and how to solve problems within friendships. We will learn about how to make others feel part of a group and how we can show respect towards people by the way we treat them. We will revise how to act to support someone who is hurt or upset, and what contributes towards a healthy relationship.

Design & Technology

In DT, we will be exploring the function of Ancient Greek inventions and how they are relevant in the modern day. We will then develop a prototype with a specific function, communicating our ideas through annotated sketches and diagrams.

Spring term

English

This term, we will improve our comprehension skills and explore ideas through excerpts from ‘Kai and the Monkey King’, by Joe Todd-Stanton, and enhance our writing skills by studying the imaginative storytelling in ‘The Darkest of Dark’, by the retired Canadian Astronaut, Chris Hadfield. We will learn about Kai’s clever adventures and the daring journeys Chris takes into space, and use a variety of new vocabulary when writing our own diary entries, descriptions and letters based on these key texts. We will focus on applying specific grammar skills, including fronted adverbials, to write in role as either Kai, navigating mythical challenges, or as an astronaut, exploring the mysteries of the universe.

Maths

In Maths, we will use our understanding of place value to build our confidence with fractions, learning how to compare, order, add and subtract them. We will also develop our multiplication and division skills, tackling both mental and written methods, and applying these to solve real-life problems. Through practical activities and problem-solving challenges, we will strengthen our number sense and learn to work with fractions, times tables, and division in a variety of exciting ways!

To embed our understanding of newly taught maths skills this term, we have taken part in active maths lessons!

Science

This term, we will explore the wonders of space and the effects of forces. We will learn about the planets, the Sun, and the Moon, alongside learning about how gravity, friction and air resistance affect how objects move. Through experiments, observations and discussions, we will discover how forces shape the world around us and how astronauts (past and present) experience life beyond Earth.

With a visit from the the University of Hertfordshire, we created our own galaxies!

Then, we will move onto refining our formal and mental methods for addition and subtraction.

To embed our understanding of newly taught maths skills this half term, we have taken part in active maths lessons!
